In inventory control for recoverable item, Metric-based and Markov-based studies have been two main streams. They have different viewpoint in fomulation of problems. Metric-based studies concentrate on the distribution of pipeline stock. On the other hand, Markov-based studies focus on the transition of net stock. Futhermore, lateral transshipment can be a resonable alternative to increase an efficiency of recoverable items, inventory. It can reduce delayed time resulting from back order and help to maintain the availability of systems. In this study, the effectiveness of two methodologies will be tested with numerical examples in lateral transshipment environment. Expected back order will be calculated for comparing of models. The results show that Metric-based model has lower error in calculation of expected back order. Moreover, the calculation process is easy to use and understand.
