Drawing on defectors' life writings, media representations, films, and fiction from the last two decades, Christine Kim analyzes powerful affective legacies of cultural fantasies of North Korea. Arguing that understandings of North Korea and diasporic Asia are tied to histories of imperialist expansion, she critiques global knowings of North Korea that work to normalize a post-Cold War order, drawing on the critical energies of Global South projects.
